When we teach kids about business, we often start with the simplest, most tangible concept: selling a product. It makes sense—if a child loves to crochet, they can create little stuffed animals or coasters and sell them at a market. This is a fantastic first step in understanding entrepreneurship, but it’s just the beginning. Once they grasp these fundamental business principles, it’s time to introduce new layers of possibility.
This is exactly what happened when BizKids had the opportunity to visit Thinkific’s Head Office in Vancouver. Thinkific, a leading tech company, allows content creators to build and sell online courses, opening up a world of opportunity beyond physical products.
From Selling Products to Teaching Others
During their visit, our BizKids learned that instead of just selling their crochet creations, they could also create and sell a course on how to crochet. This shift in perspective is massive. Suddenly, they realized that their skills weren’t just valuable in a direct product-to-customer transaction—they could be scaled, taught, and monetized in new ways:
Selling a product – Handmade crochet items at a market or online store.
Selling knowledge – Teaching others how to crochet through an online course.
Expanding reach – Selling physical products online to reach a larger audience beyond local markets.
Creating community – Running workshops, engaging with fellow creators, and fostering a learning space for others interested in the craft.
By adding these layers to their understanding of business, kids begin to think bigger about what they can create and how they can share their talents with the world.

BizKids & Thinkific: Empowering Young Creators
One of the most exciting things about this experience was that BizKids’ newest program, Kids Course Creator, is currently running in classrooms across Canada. This program teaches kids how to construct an online course—everything from planning their lessons to presenting their content in a way that engages learners. And where is it hosted? On the Thinkific platform! This real-world connection makes learning even more meaningful.
Instead of just imagining how online education works, these kids are actively creating courses and learning the process hands-on. They’re not just consumers of education; they’re becoming creators, sharing their knowledge and passions with the world.
A Mindset Shift That Lasts a Lifetime
Each layer of understanding that kids gain helps them expand their minds and belief in what’s possible—not just in business but in life. Once they learn that they can take something they love and turn it into multiple revenue streams, they start to think differently about their own potential. They gain the confidence to explore, create, and innovate beyond what they originally thought was possible.
At BizKids, that’s what we’re all about—helping kids discover their potential, develop their skills, and understand that there is always more than one way to bring their ideas to life.
