Empowering Future Leaders: A Transformational Initiative with The Discovery Foundation

At Build a Biz Kids, we believe in equipping youth with the skills, confidence, and mindset they need to thrive in an ever-evolving digital world. That’s why we are thrilled to announce our partnership with The Discovery Foundation, whose generous support is fueling The Discovery Foundation’s Future Leaders Initiative. This initiative will directly impact hundreds of youth across British Columbia, particularly in remote and rural communities, by providing hands-on digital literacy and entrepreneurial education.

Why Digital Literacy & Entrepreneurship Matter

The world is changing rapidly, and technology is at the heart of that transformation. However, access to digital education is not equal—many youth, especially those in remote and underserved communities, are left behind. The Discovery Foundation’s Future Leaders Initiative bridges this gap, ensuring that kids aged 9-14yrs gain the future-ready skills they need to participate in the modern workforce and become leaders in BC’s technology-driven economy.

Through this initiative, youth will:

  • Develop Digital Literacy Skills – Learn foundational and advanced digital skills, from website building and online safety to e-commerce platforms and course creation.
  • Build Entrepreneurial Mindsets – Understand how to turn ideas into digital businesses, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and adaptability.
  • Gain Real-World Experience – Engage in hands-on programs that take learning beyond the classroom, empowering them to launch their own online ventures.
  • Strengthen Soft Skills – Flex critical skills such as resilience, communication, leadership, and critical thinking, ensuring they are well-prepared for whatever the future holds.

Reaching Underserved Communities

This initiative is about more than education—it’s about accessibility, opportunity, and empowerment. With The Discovery Foundation’s support, we will be able to reach youth in communities that have historically faced barriers to digital literacy education, including:

  • Indigenous communities
  • BIPOC youth
  • Girls interested in tech & entrepreneurship
  • Lower-income families
  • Newcomers to Canada
  • Youth with different learning abilities

By fostering an early understanding of technology and digital business, this initiative creates a pipeline of future innovators, entrepreneurs, and digital leaders who will contribute to BC’s long-term economic growth and technological advancement.

Beyond Technical Skills: The Human Impact

While digital literacy and entrepreneurship are at the core of this program, there’s an equally important layer—mental health and self-identity development. By providing real-world learning experiences, youth gain confidence in their abilities, see themselves as capable contributors to society, and build a sense of self-worth. These skills not only prepare them for future careers but also help prevent mental health struggles by fostering emotional resilience and purpose.

A Heartfelt Thank You to The Discovery Foundation

We are incredibly grateful to The Discovery Foundation for their commitment to investing in the next generation of BC’s technology leaders. Their dedication to digital literacy and entrepreneurship will have a lasting ripple effect, ensuring that youth across the province have the tools, knowledge, and confidence to create their own futures.

This initiative is launching as early as this month, and we can’t wait to witness the impact it will have on the next generation of future-ready, innovative, and empowered youth.
